Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has stressed the need for greater discipline and defensive concentration after his side’s Premier League defeat to Arsenal, where they finished with ten men.
The Blues had gone ten matches without a dismissal under Rosenior, but back-to-back red cards have disrupted momentum and cost points. Wesley Fofana was sent off against Burnley, followed by Pedro’s dismissal in the second half against Arsenal, leaving Chelsea vulnerable and unable to recover.
“We conceded two goals from set-pieces, which ultimately cost us the game. It’s really disappointing to have another red card. There’s a lot of good in our play, but I don’t want to keep talking about performances without results.”
“It’s frustrating because Pedro was causing problems before the red card. Now we’ll miss him against Aston Villa. As a group, we must take more responsibility for our discipline and decision-making. Some of the goals we’re conceding are simply not acceptable at this level.”
With a demanding run of fixtures in both domestic and European competitions, Rosenior faces the challenge of keeping his squad competitive while avoiding further suspensions that could weaken Chelsea’s chances.
