In a farming village in Bangladesh, an albino buffalo with a sweep of pale blond hair has become an unlikely celebrity — and its resemblance to a certain American president is entirely the point.
The 700-kilogramme animal belongs to farmer Zia Uddin Mridha. Locals and social media users have nicknamed it “Donald Trump,” drawn by the buffalo’s unusual colouring and its distinctive hair that curls beneath two curved horns — a combination that visitors say mirrors the signature look of the US president.
The nickname stuck. Then the crowds arrived.
From Farm Animal to Social Media Phenomenon
Throughout May, families, influencers, and curious residents have made the journey to Mridha’s farm specifically to photograph the buffalo. Some travel from surrounding districts. Others arrive by boat.
Caretakers wash the animal four times daily and brush its pale hair carefully before each wave of visitors. The routine speaks to how seriously the farm is managing what has become an unexpected attraction.
But the attention has come at a cost. The owner says the buffalo has lost weight under the strain of constant crowds. The farm has since restricted public access — though that has done little to stop the flow of visitors.
A Rare Animal With a Scientific Explanation
Officials from Bangladesh’s Department of Livestock Services confirm that albino buffaloes are genuinely rare. The condition results from abnormally low melanin production — the pigment responsible for skin, hair, and eye colouring in most animals. Finding one on a small farm in rural Bangladesh is, by any measure, unusual.
The Clock Is Ticking
The buffalo’s fame arrives against a significant backdrop. Bangladesh, a country of over 170 million people, prepares to sacrifice more than 12 million animals during Eid al-Adha — one of the most important celebrations in the Islamic calendar.
Mridha has confirmed the buffalo will not be spared from that tradition.
He says he will miss the animal. But he is clear that religious observance takes precedence over celebrity.
For now, the crowds keep coming — drawn by blond hair, an unlikely nickname, and a story that proves internet fame recognises no borders.
