American rapper A$AP Rocky has shared the story of how he first met his longtime partner, Rihanna, revealing that their initial encounter was far from glamorous.
The 37-year-old rapper made the revelation while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. According to him, the meeting happened outside a nightclub in New York at a time when he was still unknown in the music industry.
Rocky explained that he and his friends, including late fashion icon Virgil Abloh and designer Matthew Williams, were being stopped by bouncers and denied entry into the club. As they argued with security at the entrance, Rihanna suddenly walked out of the venue.
He said they immediately locked eyes, but the moment made him uncomfortable because she saw him in the middle of a tense exchange with the club’s guards. Rocky admitted he felt embarrassed by the situation.
When host Jimmy Fallon jokingly asked whether Rihanna helped him gain access into the club, Rocky quickly dismissed the idea, saying she did not.
Despite the awkward nature of their first meeting, the two later developed a strong bond. Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, began dating in 2020 and now share three children together.
Rocky appeared on the show to promote his upcoming album, Don’t Be Dumb, which marks his first studio album release in eight years.
