A 20-year-old University of Lagos student testified in tears at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, narrating how a lecturer, Samuel Obinna Ojogbo, allegedly sexually assaulted her in his office.

The lecturer, who is 53 years old, is standing trial on two charges of rape and sexual assault brought by the Lagos State Government.

The student, who appeared as the first prosecution witness before Justice Oyindamola Ogala, said the incident happened on August 22, 2025, at the University of Lagos, Akoka campus.

She told the court that the lecturer had spoken to her after an examination on August 21 and later asked her to visit his office.

According to her, she went to his office on August 22 after another exam, where she eventually met him.

She described the office as an underground room with no window and no secretary.

The witness said that while they were talking, other students briefly entered but were sent away by the lecturer.

She told the court:

“On their way out, they didn’t close the door well. He told me to close the door. As I went to close it, he stood behind me and pushed me to the couch beside the door.”

“He started caressing me, touched my breasts, and then forced himself on me. He raped me.”

She also alleged that after the incident, the lecturer promised to help her academically and collected her exam docket and phone number.

The student said she left the office in tears and immediately reported the incident to her friend, who helped her escalate the matter to school authorities.

She explained that she first reported to a department lecturer, then to the Head of Department, before the case was taken further to the school’s SERVICOM unit, medical centre, and later referred to the police.

She added that she was also directed to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency and WARIF for further examination.

The court was informed that there were attempts by the lecturer’s family and associates to reach a settlement after the complaint was filed.

The case has been adjourned by Justice Ogala until April 27, 2026, for cross-examination.
