Anambra Decides: 2.7 Million Voters Head to Polls to Elect New Governor

About 2.7 million registered voters in Anambra State will today cast their ballots to elect the state’s next governor for a four-year term, in what is expected to be one of the most closely watched elections in Nigeria this year.

Across major towns such as Awka, Onitsha, and Nnewi, daily activities continued as usual on Friday, with banks, markets, and offices open for business ahead of the poll. However, preparations for the election were clearly visible, especially around the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices where officials and security personnel were seen making final arrangements.

There was also increased security presence on major roads, with patrol vehicles stationed at strategic points and helicopters hovering across different parts of the state to monitor movement and ensure a peaceful voting process.

INEC has assured residents that all materials have been distributed to polling units and that the Commission is ready to conduct a free, fair, and credible election.

Political analysts say the election will be a crucial test for both the ruling party in the state and the opposition, as Anambra voters decide who will steer the affairs of the state for the next four years.
