The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the House of Representatives is now three members short of attaining a two-thirds majority, following the defection of Hon. Ojema Ojotu, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker from Benue State, to the ruling party.
Ojotu’s defection was formally announced on the floor of the House during plenary on Wednesday, drawing mixed reactions from lawmakers across party lines.
The development comes barely a week after the APC secured a two-thirds majority in the Senate, strengthening its dominance in the upper chamber.
It also follows the recent defection of three PDP lawmakers from Kaduna State to the APC, which initially boosted the ruling party’s numbers in the lower chamber.
With Ojotu’s defection, political analysts say the balance of power in the House remains fluid, as both the APC and the PDP continue to make moves ahead of future legislative and political realignments.
