The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed a coordinated attack by suspected bandits on the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the incident happened around 2:00 am on May 25, 2026.
The attackers reportedly stormed the area in the early hours, setting part of the Emir’s palace on fire and abducting 10 residents during the operation.
However, the police said officers on duty were able to repel the attack on the divisional headquarters, preventing further damage.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ojo Adekimi, ordered a large-scale security response involving police operatives, forest guards, and local vigilantes to rescue the kidnapped victims and track down those responsible.
He said, “These criminals have declared war against peace-loving citizens, and we are fully prepared to hunt them down relentlessly.”
