A fresh wave of violence has hit Sabon Gari (Yilpo) community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, leaving one youth dead, two injured, and another abducted.
The attack occurred on Thursday afternoon as a group of young miners were returning home from their tin mining activities. According to a community youth leader, Nandom Ishaku, the victims were ambushed along the Aloghom–Yilpo–Mwansat College route by suspected armed Fulani militias.
One of the miners, identified simply as Kyenshak, was killed during the нападение. Two others sustained gunshot injuries, while another victim was taken away by the attackers. His fate remains unknown.
Residents say the incident did not come as a surprise. Ishaku revealed that days before the attack, a Fulani group known as the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN) had accused local youths of attacking herders and stealing cattle. He described the claims as false and alleged that such statements are often used to justify planned attacks.
He also expressed frustration, stating that the community had alerted security agencies after seeing the warning signs, but no preventive action was taken.
The attack has left the community in grief and fear, especially as it comes shortly after a period of relative calm. Locals are now calling for urgent intervention and stronger security presence to prevent further violence.
