A Magistrate Court in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital has ordered that a factional chairman, Sufyanu Bala, of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state be detained pending his bail hearing which is scheduled on Tuesday April 21 2026.

This order followed a suit brought before the court by Abdulrazaq Iko seeking the court to prevent Bala from parading himself as the Chairman of the party in the state.

Bala’s counsel, Ahmad Fingilla, has argued that the court lacks jurisdiction to hear the matter which the presiding Magistrate, Abubakar Koko, objected insisting the constitution empowers the court to hear such cases.

Counsel to the complainant, Garba Shehu, argued that detention was necessary to enforce compliance with subsisting court orders, claiming Bala had continued to act in defiance.

Crisis in the ADC chapter of Kebbi State has deepened as two factions emerged claiming control of the party structure.
