The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned a man identified as Salifu Olije Mustapha before a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Kubwa, Abuja, for allegedly impersonating an EFCC operative and defrauding members of the public.
Mustapha was brought before Justice A.I. Akobi on a four-count charge involving impersonation and misrepresentation.
According to the EFCC, the defendant allegedly pretended to be an officer of the commission and participated in activities aimed at deceiving and extorting unsuspecting residents.
One of the charges stated that Mustapha allegedly posed as a Nigerian Air Force officer and assisted two other suspects in disguising themselves as EFCC operatives.
The suspects were said to have worn EFCC operational uniforms and used a Toyota Corolla vehicle with registration number KTU399GT to allegedly harass and defraud members of the public in the Wuse II area of Abuja.
Another charge accused him of falsely presenting himself as a Nigerian Air Force officer and using the fake identity to deceive and obtain money from unsuspecting people.
When the charges were read in court, Mustapha pleaded guilty to all four counts.
Following his guilty plea, the prosecution counsel, R.U. Adaga, asked the court to convict and sentence him accordingly.
Justice Akobi later adjourned the case until June 1, 2026, for sentencing.
The EFCC said the suspect was arrested after security intelligence linked him to the impersonation of EFCC personnel.
Investigations also revealed that he was allegedly seen wearing fake EFCC uniforms with two other suspects while stopping motorists and collecting money from them under false pretences.
