The management of Gombe State University has launched an investigation after a day-old baby boy was discovered in the institution’s female hostel on Friday, May 15, 2026.
The university confirmed the incident through its Public Relations Officer, Napthali Hadu, who described the situation as unfortunate and said it violates the institution’s student guidelines.
According to him, the school has already begun a full investigation to determine how the baby was found in the hostel and to identify those responsible.
He assured that the outcome of the investigation would be made public once it is concluded.
“I also heard about the unfortunate incident today at school. I will get back to you as soon as I gather more details,” he said.
The university management added that efforts are ongoing to ensure the person responsible is identified and appropriately sanctioned.
The newborn baby has since been taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, for medical attention.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the school has also placed the female hostel under restriction while security and administrative checks continue.
