Fast-rising Nigerian singer Folarin Odunlami, popularly known as Fola, has spoken about how fame has affected his life, especially his ability to live normally as a student.
In a recent snippet from his documentary with Spotify’s Radar, Fola shared how his journey to fame came with unexpected challenges. He revealed that he once spent all his money on a music project in 2022, hoping it would make him popular — but the effort initially failed.
“Music matters so much to me because it’s such an amazing thing that you can speak to and touch someone without even meeting them in person,” he said. “In 2022, I put all my money on a music project, but I didn’t blow. Before, when I went to campus, nobody noticed me. But just one year later, I can’t even go to school anymore because of fame.”
Fola explained that the attention he now receives has made returning to school difficult, as he can no longer move freely or focus on academics like before.
The Alone crooner rose to prominence after being signed to Bella Shmurda’s record label, Dagbana Republik, in October 2024. Since then, he has gained recognition in the Afrobeats scene and collaborated with major stars like Wizkid and Kizz Daniel.
