Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, has opened up about how early fame affected his life, revealing that he was exploited at a young age.
The singer became popular after signing with Mavin Records and releasing his first EP in 2019 at just 19 years old.
In his new song ‘Moviestar’, a collaboration with French artist Sofiane Pamart, Rema shared emotional details about his experiences growing up in the spotlight.
In the lyrics, the 25-year-old revealed that he was drugged by women when he was younger.
He sings:
“Girls always give me drugs.
My happiness is zipped in their little purse
Friends always make me feel robbed….”
Rema also expressed that fans often do not understand his struggles because they are unaware of how young he was when he got into fame.
He added that after signing his record deal, it became difficult for him to step away, as there was pressure from the label for him to keep making music and entertaining fans, even when he was dealing with personal challenges.
