Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said he would withdraw from the 2027 presidential race if a younger aspirant secures the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential ticket ahead of him.
Atiku, who recently joined the ADC after decades in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), made the declaration while addressing party supporters.
He stressed that his interest in the 2027 elections is driven by a desire to strengthen democracy and provide experienced leadership, not personal ambition.
“If the party decides to entrust the ticket to a younger aspirant, I will gladly step aside and give my full support,” Atiku said.
The former vice president, who has contested for the presidency multiple times, added that Nigeria needs both the energy of youth and the wisdom of experience to overcome its challenges.
