Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran will not surrender to pressure from the United States, describing American global influence as a declining force.
Speaking at the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting in New Delhi on Thursday, Araghchi said Iran has grown stronger under pressure and remains committed to defending its sovereignty.
He accused the United States and Israel of carrying out what he called unlawful attacks against Iran over the past year. He said the actions were based on claims that contradict assessments from the International Atomic Energy Agency and US intelligence agencies.
Araghchi said Iran is prepared to defend itself militarily but remains open to diplomacy.
“We never bow to threats or pressure,” he said. “But we respond to respect.”
The Iranian minister warned that regional instability harms all countries, including those responsible for escalating tensions. He said military confrontation is not the solution to disputes involving Iran.
Araghchi also praised Iran’s armed forces, medical workers, teachers and security personnel for what he described as sacrifices made to protect the country and its people.
During his speech, he called on BRICS nations to take a stronger stance against what he described as Western domination and unilateral pressure.
He said BRICS represents the rise of a new global order led by countries from the Global South. According to him, Iran’s confrontation with the US reflects a broader struggle faced by independent nations.
Araghchi urged member states to condemn violations of international law by the United States and Israel. He also called for action to stop what he described as impunity in global affairs.
He argued that declining powers often react aggressively to maintain influence, comparing empires in decline to “a wounded animal.”
The Iranian official also criticized Western silence over conflicts and alleged violations of national sovereignty.
Iran has faced heightened tensions with both Washington and Tel Aviv following recent military clashes and sanctions.
Araghchi said Tehran seeks a more balanced international system where powerful nations cannot impose their will on others.
He added that BRICS should become a major force in shaping a fairer global order based on equality, sovereignty and mutual respect.
