A young man identified as Ismail AbdulKarim has died in a road accident shortly after completing his final examinations at the Community Health Department of the Kogi State College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah.
The tragic incident happened in the Felele area of Lokoja, Kogi State, opposite the Kogi State Polytechnic.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred on Friday afternoon when the student allegedly tried to avoid wheelbarrow pushers along the road. In the process, he reportedly fell into the path of an oncoming trailer moving at high speed and was fatally struck.
He was said to be on his way to visit relatives in another part of the city after travelling from Idah, where he had just finished his final exams.
A colleague described the moment as heartbreaking, saying, “After writing your final exams and heading to see your people, your life was cut short.”
The National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) also mourned his death, describing him as a dedicated, humble, and promising student whose passing has deeply affected the student community.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lawal Fagge, confirmed the accident, stating it happened around 5:28 p.m. and involved a truck with registration number KMC 23 YQ.
He added that the victim suffered severe head injuries and multiple trauma and was later taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, where he was confirmed dead and deposited for autopsy.
