Veteran Nigerian singer Konga has demanded 60 percent of the earnings from Burna Boy’s song “Update,” claiming the Afrobeats star sampled his work without permission.

Speaking on the Hits Don’t Lie podcast, Konga expressed frustration that Burna Boy allegedly failed to reach out to him, even after he publicly raised the issue in a peaceful manner months ago.

He compared the situation to Burna Boy’s arrangement with Toni Braxton, who reportedly received 60 percent royalties from the hit song “Last Last” for the use of her track “He Wasn’t Man Enough.”

In his words:
“If Toni Braxton is having 60% royalty of Last Last, why can’t he do the same thing to come and meet me first, talk to me?”

Konga revealed that despite the situation, he has held back his lawyers from taking legal action because of his admiration for Burna Boy and his contributions to African music globally.

He also alleged that Burna Boy previously sampled his lyrics in the remix of “Sungba” with Asake.

However, Konga warned that since Burna Boy ignored his request for collaboration on his classic track “Kabakaba,” he has now decided to also sample Burna Boy’s work without permission.
