Staff and students of Kogi State Polytechnic have been thrown into mourning following the death of a lecturer, Anslem Ojodomo, who reportedly collapsed while teaching.
The incident was confirmed in a statement issued by the Rector, Salihu Avidime, and signed by the Acting Coordinator of Public Relations, John Onimisi.
The rector expressed deep sadness over the loss, describing it as a personal shock. He revealed that he had met the late lecturer just hours before the incident, noting that they exchanged greetings and he appeared to be in good condition.
He described Ojodomo as a dedicated academic who showed humility, professionalism, and strong commitment to excellence throughout his career.
“The Polytechnic community is mourning the loss of a promising academic and dependable colleague, who embodied scholarship, service, and character,” the rector said.
He added that Ojodomo made meaningful contributions as Deputy Dean of Students’ Services and as a lecturer, leaving a lasting impact on the institution.
The incident happened barely a month after the death of another lecturer, Barnabas Akuba, who passed away shortly after completing his PhD programme.
According to students who witnessed the incident, Ojodomo collapsed while addressing them during a lecture. He was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
His sudden death has raised concerns among staff and students, especially following the loss of two lecturers within a short time.
Ojodomo, who joined the institution in 2021, was known as a committed educator. He held Master’s degrees from Prince Abubakar Audu University and had recently defended his PhD proposal. He also served on several committees and was seen as an inspiring figure by both colleagues and students.
The polytechnic community extended condolences to his family and the people of Igalamela/Odolu, while praying for the peaceful rest of his soul.
