American rapper Azealia Banks has sparked reactions online after claiming that Nigerians are not welcoming toward Black Americans.
The “212” hitmaker alleged that Nigerians are “cold-hearted” and often push Black Americans away instead of embracing them.
Taking to her X handle, Azealia Banks wrote, “I don’t want to be Nigerian because Nigerian people are cold-hearted and push black Americans away.”
The rapper also praised Ghana, claiming that the country is more welcoming and accepting of Black Americans. She added that she is proud of her Ghanaian heritage.
Her comments quickly triggered backlash from many Nigerians on social media, with several users accusing her of unfairly stereotyping Nigerians.
Despite the criticism, Azealia Banks reportedly refused to withdraw her statement and instead continued making controversial remarks about Nigerians online.
