Nigerian rapper and activist, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has expressed deep concern over the worsening state of the country, saying Nigeria’s situation has been “depressing” for him.
The artist shared his thoughts in response to a post by fellow entertainer, Nasboi, who urged Nigerians to unite beyond tribal and religious lines and hold their leaders accountable.
Nasboi wrote:
“We’ve really kept quiet in this country. Reminiscing stories like ‘snake swallowing money.’ These politicians really take us for granted, busy stealing money they cannot finish on earth. It’s time to put our tribes and religions aside. Put this country first.”
Reacting, Falz lamented how divisive politics continues to hinder national progress. He said Nigerians must learn to think for themselves instead of allowing politicians to manipulate them through ethnic and religious sentiments.
“I cannot begin to explain how depressing it has been in recent years, seeing tribal and religious sentiments still being used to turn us against each other. At some point, we need to start thinking for ourselves,” Falz wrote.
His comments come amid growing online debates between Christian and Muslim youths following U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent threat to launch military action in Nigeria to protect Christians from alleged attacks by Islamic extremists.
