A 23-year-old brick moulder, Isreal Ayomide, has been killed after being stabbed by a suspected thug known as “Aboy” during a dispute over ₦200 in Ota, Ogun State.
The incident reportedly happened at Ori-Ade Block, along Alaka Road in the Rosiji area of Ewupe community, after a disagreement at a block factory.
According to residents, the argument started when the suspect demanded ₦200 from the victim, which he refused to give. The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical fight.
A resident, Moyo, said:
“The altercation lasted just a few minutes before Aboy pinned Ayomide down and stabbed him. He died before members of the community could rush him to the hospital.”
Another resident, Daniel, alleged that the suspect was already known for violent behaviour in the area and accused local police of initially detaining community members who reported the case instead of focusing on the suspect.
The deceased’s father, Mr. Israel, said the fight started after his son confronted the suspect at the block industry, adding that the attacker used a bottle during the struggle before fleeing the scene.
He said his son was rushed to a nearby health centre but was confirmed dead on arrival.
He also alleged that the suspect had a history of violent attacks in the community, including previous stabbings.
Police authorities later confirmed that the suspect is still at large. The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said efforts are ongoing to arrest him.
He explained that the suspect’s phone was left behind during the incident, making tracking difficult, but assured that investigations are still in progress and that justice will be served.
