In a landmark ruling that has cleared the path for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to hold its long-awaited Elective National Convention, the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has granted full approval for the event to proceed as scheduled on November 15 and 16, 2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.

The judgment, delivered on Monday, November 3, 2025, by Hon. Justice A. L. Akintola, came in Suit No. I/1336/2025, filed by Folahan Malamo Adelabi, an aspirant for the position of Deputy National Organizing Secretary of the PDP.

Justice Akintola, in his ruling, restrained the PDP, its servants, agents, and officers from truncating, frustrating, or interfering with the party’s approved guidelines, timetable, and schedule of activities for the National Convention. The court held that any act aimed at disrupting or halting the exercise would be unlawful and contrary to the party’s constitution and democratic principles.

In a significant directive, the court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deploy monitors and observers to the convention “to ensure full compliance with electoral laws,” thereby reinforcing transparency, accountability, and legitimacy in the party’s internal democratic process.

Furthermore, the court directed Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State and Chairman of the National Convention Organizing Committee (NCOC), to proceed with all necessary preparations for the successful conduct of the convention.

With this ruling, all legal impediments that had cast uncertainty over the PDP’s convention have been laid to rest. The NCOC is now expected to finalize arrangements for the seamless participation of over 3,000 delegates, including governors, National Assembly members, statutory delegates, and key stakeholders from across Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory.

The convention is expected to produce new members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and set the tone for the PDP’s political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.
