The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of an unspecified number of students and staff members in Ahoro-Esinele community, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
According to the police, the attack happened on Friday when armed men invaded schools in the area, leading to the abduction of pupils, students, and teachers.
The command also confirmed that a teacher and a motorcyclist were killed during the incident.
Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade said the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, has visited the affected community and ordered an immediate investigation into the attack.
The police explained that the attackers operated on motorcycles and carried out simultaneous assaults on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School, Esiele.
He said, “Preliminary investigation reveals that the assailants, who operated on motorcycles, simultaneously attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota as well as Community Grammar School/L.A Primary School, Esiele, abducting some pupils, students and staff members including the Vice Principal, Mrs Alamu Folawe.
“It is important to state that as at the time of filing this report, no pupil or student has been confirmed killed during the incident.”
The statement added that one Assistant Headmaster, identified as Mr Adesiyan, was killed, while an okada rider who tried to resist the attackers was also shot dead.
Police further stated that the attackers also stole a Toyota Corolla belonging to the abducted vice principal and later set the vehicle on fire along a road leading to the forest.
