The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested six suspects allegedly connected to the murder of the traditional ruler of Ishinkwo Community, Josephat Nnanna Ikegwu.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abakaliki, saying the arrests followed intelligence-led investigations carried out by police operatives.
The suspects were identified as Ucha Johnson, Ogobuchi Igwe, Nkpuma Nwankwo, Edwin Onwoshi, Itumo Joseph, and Emmanuel Nwaoba.
According to the police, officers also recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with eight rounds of live ammunition during the operation.
The traditional ruler was reportedly killed at his residence on April 2, 2026, an incident that caused tension and concern within the community.
Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State, Hope Urunwa Okafor, said the command remains determined to ensure that everyone involved in the crime is brought to justice.
She also assured residents that the police would continue efforts to fight violent crimes and maintain public safety across the state.
Police added that the suspects would be charged to court after investigations are completed.
