The Benue State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Benjamin Msughaondo, in Benue State.
The incident reportedly happened late Sunday night around the Major settlement area near the Buruku Local Government Secretariat.
Police spokesperson, DSP Edet Udeme, confirmed the arrests in Makurdi, saying the corps member was wrongly accused of stealing a motorcycle before he was attacked by a mob.
According to her, the accusation was not verified before the attack occurred, leading to the tragic killing of the corps member.
She also revealed that early investigations showed the allegation was false, as documents recovered confirmed that the victim was the rightful owner of the motorcycle.
“He was wrongly accused of stealing a motorcycle, and without verifying the claim, he was mobbed to death,” she said.
Police said two suspects are already in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest another individual who is still at large.
The command assured that all those involved in the attack will be brought to justice as investigations continue.
