The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of a decomposing body inside an apartment in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
The deceased, identified simply as Kemisola, was reportedly found in her room at a residence located in the Jaleyemi area of the city on Thursday.
The command’s spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that the incident had been reported to the police and that officers immediately responded to the scene.
“The incident was reported today. The remains were evacuated by the police, and an autopsy will be carried out,” he said.
Ojelabi added that there were no visible signs of violence on the deceased’s body, but investigations had commenced to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding her death.
“There were no marks of violence on the deceased, but the police will investigate the incident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death,” he added.
Reports gathered indicated that the remains have been deposited in a mortuary for preservation and further examination.
Some items reportedly found inside the room before the evacuation included a knife, a mobile phone, and an empty bottle containing an unidentified substance.
A man who identified himself as the elder brother of the deceased said he last saw Kemisola earlier in the week.
“When I saw her on Monday, she told me she would come back to me. But I did not see her again until her body was found today. She was a hairstylist,” he said.
A neighbour identified as Damilola described the deceased as a friendly and kind person within the community.
“Kemisola was like a younger sister to me. She was a lovely person. When she came back on Monday, she greeted me and went inside,” Damilola said.
The neighbour further explained that Kemisola had previously moved out of the apartment because of irregular electricity supply and had been staying with her maternal uncle. According to him, many neighbours were unaware that she had returned to the apartment until an unpleasant odour was noticed.
