Detectives from the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a truck hijacking operation in Ogun State and recovered a stolen DAF truck alongside a wooden-fabricated rifle.
The incident happened on Wednesday after suspected hoodlums reportedly intercepted a truck driver transporting motor spare parts around the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu North and forcefully took the vehicle from him.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, officers of the Ijebu Imushin Division quickly teamed up with highway patrol operatives after receiving information about the attack.
The police reportedly moved swiftly to the scene, putting pressure on the suspects and forcing them to abandon the truck before escaping.
During a search of the recovered vehicle, operatives discovered a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape, which was allegedly used by the suspects during the operation.
“The prompt intervention of the police effectively thwarted the criminal operation and prevented the loss of property.
“The driver, who sustained minor injury to his right ankle during the incident, was promptly administered first aid treatment and operatives are actively tracking the fleeing suspects with a view to their swift arrest and prosecution,” he said.
The police spokesperson also advised members of the public to stay alert and report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies, assuring residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
