Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti has denied accusations that he is using Grammy-winning artiste Wizkid’s name to gain attention or revive his career.
Kuti had recently faced backlash after repeatedly criticising Wizkid and his fans during livestream sessions, prompting claims that he was chasing clout. Reacting to the allegations during one of his livestreams, Kuti insisted that his career has never declined and therefore needs no revival.
He said:
“Some people are saying I am trying to use Wizkid to revive my career. When did my career die for me to be trying to revive it?”
Backing his claim with achievements, the singer revealed that he performed extensively across the globe in the past year.
“Last year alone, I did 82 shows globally. I sold out shows in Australia, Europe, America, and Brazil. I have people who are fans of my music worldwide,” he stated.
Kuti added that the music industry is big enough for everyone to thrive, describing himself as “Big Bird.”
“The sky is big for everybody. Because no matter how big you are, you can’t occupy the whole sky,” he said.
He concluded by stressing that artistes whose careers need revival are well aware of it, adding:
“People whose careers need revival know themselves. It is not me.”
