Nigerian musician Seun Kuti has reacted to Wizkid following a heated exchange sparked by comparisons between the pop star and Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The response came after Wizkid took to Instagram to declare that he is bigger than Fela and aimed personal insults at Seun Kuti. In a series of Instagram story posts, Wizkid mocked Seun and repeatedly claimed superiority over his late father.
Wizkid wrote, “Pvssy boy @bigbirdkuti ok I big pass your papa!! Wetin u one do? Fool at 40 @bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz everyday bigger than your papa!! Wetin u one do fool? Hungry bastard.”
Reacting to the outburst, Seun Kuti addressed the controversy in a calm but pointed manner, suggesting that Wizkid should focus on being himself rather than seeking validation through comparisons with Fela.
He wrote, “Una oga don come out. Ehn hen. Tmr we finish. Day 7. Shebi una say e no go answer? Dem don fall una hand o. Just be yourself short man. You are also great.”
The disagreement began after Seun openly rejected comparisons between Wizkid and his father, insisting that such claims diminish Fela’s legacy. He argued that describing any modern artist as “bigger” or “more influential” than Fela ignores the depth of Fela’s contributions to society.
According to Seun, Fela was not just a successful musician but a powerful political and cultural activist whose impact went far beyond record sales, awards, or global fame.
He also criticised Wizkid’s fans for constantly bringing Fela into online arguments, describing their actions as disrespectful and historically ignorant. Seun stressed that equating modern commercial success with Fela’s historical and revolutionary influence reflects a misunderstanding of history and the true weight of Fela’s legacy.
