At least six people have been killed after an improvised explosive device, IED, exploded along the Bagega–Anka road in Zamfara State.
The explosion happened early Thursday morning in Anka Local Government Area when a commercial vehicle carrying passengers was travelling through the area.
According to reports, the blast badly damaged the vehicle and temporarily disrupted movement along the road.
Residents alleged that suspected bandits planted the explosive device, which detonated as the vehicle passed by.
The incident was said to have occurred around 9 am, with some passengers dying instantly at the scene, while others suffered serious injuries.
The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the incident.
He disclosed that six people were confirmed dead, while six others who sustained injuries were currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
Abubakar also stated that security operatives had been deployed to the area following the explosion and that normal activities had since resumed.
