Tansian University has reacted to a viral video circulating on social media alleging that a priest linked to the institution was caught engaging in a sexual act with a female student.
The video, which has generated reactions online, showed a man identified as a priest from the university’s campus in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, being stripped and beaten by some female students.
Unverified reports claimed that the priest was allegedly caught having sex with a female student inside a hostel.
However, the management of the university has denied the allegation, describing the report as false and misleading.
In a statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Barrister Boniface Amalu, the university stated that no such incident took place either within or outside the school premises.
“The Management Of Tansian University, Umunya, Anambra State Categorically Refute, Deny And Condemn The Allegation Of Sexual Harassment Levelled Against A Priest Associated With Our Esteemed Institution,” The Statement Said.
The institution further insisted that there was no evidence supporting the allegation involving the priest and any female student.
According to the university, the accusation was allegedly created by people seeking to damage the institution’s reputation.
The management also revealed that the matter has been reported to the police for proper investigation.
The university urged students, parents, guardians, education stakeholders, and members of the public to disregard the allegation, stressing that the institution, as a faith-based university, does not tolerate immoral behaviour.
