American pop star Taylor Swift has dismissed claims that she was jealous of her best friend, Selena Gomez, for getting married before her.
Selena Gomez tied the knot with producer Benny Blanco in late September, with Swift attending the ceremony. Following the wedding, rumours circulated that Swift joked about Gomez “beating her to the altar” during her speech.
However, during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the “Cruel Summer” singer clarified that her jokes were about their old fashion choices, not marriage.
“I did do some light teasing about the way we dressed in 2008 — it was the year of deep V-necks and colorful skinny jeans,” Swift said. “I talked about how happy I am for her and how beautiful it’s been to be part of her life. I didn’t make it about me, and I made a point not to mention my engagement.”
Swift also revealed that she didn’t immediately tell fellow singer Ed Sheeran about her engagement to NFL star Travis Kelce because he doesn’t use a phone and can only be reached through email or FaceTime.
