Nigerian gospel artist Tim Godfrey has stirred controversy following the release of his latest song, Infinity, featuring Afrobeats singer Oxlade.
The collaboration, announced on Godfrey’s Instagram page, immediately drew mixed reactions from fans — with many questioning the inclusion of Oxlade, who was previously embroiled in a 2022 sex tape scandal.
In his post, Godfrey shared a snippet of the music video directed by Ella Raaye, captioned: “With God, nothing is impossible. My God is capable… Call am, He’s reachable ♾️. INFINITY X @oxladeofficial OUT NOW!🔥 RUN IT UP 🚀🚀🚀.”
While some fans praised the collaboration as a bold crossover between gospel and mainstream Afrobeats, others criticized it as inappropriate, arguing that Oxlade’s past controversies made him an unsuitable feature for a gospel project.
Oxlade, who rose to fame in 2020 with his hit single Away, has since become a prominent Afrobeats voice. However, his image took a hit after a private video involving him and a woman was leaked online without her consent — a scandal that led to public backlash and a court case.
In 2023, a Lagos High Court ordered Oxlade to pay N5 million in damages to the woman involved.
Despite the criticism, some fans have defended Tim Godfrey’s decision, saying the collaboration reflects a message of grace, redemption, and breaking boundaries within the gospel industry.
The debate around Infinity continues to trend online as both artists remain silent amid the growing reactions.
