President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will today depart Abuja for a two-nation visit to Japan and Brazil, the Presidency has confirmed.

In a statement on Wednesday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said the trip will begin in Japan, where the president will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) scheduled to hold in Yokohama from August 20 to 22.

Following the conference, Tinubu will proceed to Brazil—a country he has visited three times in the last nine months.

Daily Trust gathered that the president’s repeated trips to Brazil have stirred quiet murmurs in some political circles, with critics likening his frequent visits to the South American nation to his earlier pattern of multiple visits to France since assuming office.

The presidency has not officially responded to questions on the frequency of these visits, but aides insist they are tied to advancing Nigeria’s diplomatic, trade, and investment interests.
