Personnel of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have rescued two kidnapped victims along the Ochumekwu–Ugbobi road in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State after responding quickly to a distress alert.
According to security sources, the incident happened around 8:00 a.m. on May 10, 2026, when armed kidnappers attacked and abducted two civilians along the road.
Troops from Sector 2 of Operation Whirl Stroke, stationed at Ochumekwu, were said to have mobilised immediately after receiving intelligence reports about the kidnapping activities in the area.
On getting to the scene, the soldiers confirmed that the victims had already been taken away by the armed attackers.
The troops reportedly launched an immediate pursuit operation, tracing the kidnappers through nearby bushes and surrounding terrain in an effort to rescue the victims.
Security sources disclosed that the intense pressure from the pursuing troops forced the kidnappers to abandon the victims and flee from the area.
The two rescued victims were later recovered safely and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for identification and other necessary procedures.
Military authorities also revealed that security patrols and surveillance have been strengthened across the area to prevent further attacks and help track down the fleeing suspects.
