The United Kingdom has formally recognised Palestine as a state, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer announced on Sunday.
In a post on X, Starmer said the decision was aimed at reviving the hope of peace between Palestinians and Israelis through a two-state solution.
“Today, to revive the hope of peace for the Palestinians and Israelis, and a two-state solution, the United Kingdom officially recognises the State of Palestine,” he wrote.
The recognition marks a historic shift in UK foreign policy and comes amid growing international pressure for renewed dialogue to end decades of conflict in the Middle East.
