The United States and Israel have carried out coordinated military strikes on Iran, with multiple explosions reported in the capital, Tehran, and other parts of the country.
United States President Donald Trump confirmed the development, stating that American forces had begun “major combat operations” in Iran. The announcement followed earlier reports that Israel had launched missile attacks targeting key locations.
Explosions were heard across Tehran, while additional blasts were reported in cities such as Qom and Isfahan. Iranian state media later indicated that President Masoud Pezeshkian is “safe and sound,” although there was no immediate official statement from the government.
Reports suggest that several strategic sites in Tehran were targeted. These include the Ministry of Intelligence, the Ministry of Defence, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, and the Parchin military complex. There were also claims that an important airport and the Pasteur district, which houses the presidential palace, came under attack. Casualties have not been officially confirmed, but some residents were said to have been injured and taken to hospitals.
In a strong statement, Trump outlined Washington’s objectives. “We are going to destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry to the ground. We are going to annihilate their navy. We are going to ensure that the region’s ‘terrorist’ proxies can no longer destabilise the region or the world. We will ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon. It is a very simple message. They will never have a nuclear weapon. This regime will soon learn that no one should challenge the strength and might of the United States Armed Forces.”
A United States official disclosed that the operation is expected to continue over several days. This raises fears of a prolonged conflict in the region.
Elsewhere, the situation has triggered security concerns across neighbouring countries. In Bahrain and Qatar, US embassies instructed their staff and citizens to remain indoors. The advisory stated, “Find a secure location within your residence or another safe building. Have a supply of food, water, medications, and other essential items.”
In Lebanon, there are growing fears that the country could be drawn into the conflict due to the involvement of Hezbollah, which maintains close ties with Iran.
Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk also commented on the situation. “At this moment, our citizens, including the staff of the Polish embassy in Tehran, are safe, but we are prepared for various scenarios,” he said. “The unity of Poles on the issue of security is particularly important today.”
The latest escalation comes shortly after another round of talks over Iran’s nuclear programme ended in Geneva. Similar negotiations in the past have also been disrupted by military action, deepening tensions between the parties involved.
Meanwhile, Iranian media outlets have reported cyberattacks affecting major platforms, including the state news agency IRNA, whose website became inaccessible even though its Telegram channel remained active.
The unfolding situation has heightened global concern, as world powers monitor developments and brace for possible retaliation from Tehran.
