Nigerian music star Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has made history by becoming the first African artist to surpass 10 billion streams on Spotify.
The milestone was achieved after Wizkid’s total streams across all credits on the music streaming platform recently crossed the 10 billion mark. This includes streams from songs where he appears as a lead artist as well as collaborations with other global stars.
Wizkid’s most streamed song on Spotify is his international collaboration with Canadian rapper Drake and British singer Tyla, which has accumulated close to 4 billion streams, making it his biggest record on the platform.
His most streamed project is Made In Lagos (Deluxe), which has recorded over one billion streams on Spotify. The album, released to global acclaim, is widely regarded as one of the most successful African albums of all time.
As a lead artist, Wizkid’s most streamed song is Essence featuring Tems. The track has gathered over 333 million streams and played a major role in pushing Afrobeats into the global mainstream.
Wizkid’s achievement further cements his status as one of Africa’s most influential and successful music exports, with a career that continues to break international records.
Meanwhile, on the global scene, American singer Billie Eilish has also made Spotify history. Her song Birds Of A Feather has surpassed Dance Monkey by Tones and I to become the most streamed solo song by a female artist on the platform.
