Nigerian-American rapper Wale has revealed that he played a key role in introducing Afrobeats star Wizkid to the international scene, including taking him to his first BET Awards ceremony.

Wale made the disclosure during a recent livestream with comedian Carter Efe, where he spoke about his long-standing relationship with Nigerian music and artists.

According to the rapper, he has followed Nigerian music for years and has personal relationships with some of the country’s biggest stars, including Wizkid. He described the singer as someone very close to him and said their friendship dates back nearly a decade.

Wale said he personally took Wizkid to his first BET Awards show, noting that the experience was part of exposing him to a wider global audience at the time.

“That is my boy. Me and Wizkid have been cool for almost 10 years now. I remember taking him to his first BET Awards show,” he said.

He also revealed that Wizkid once stayed with him in Beverly Hills, California, for an entire summer, during which they focused on making music together.

“I once accommodated him at Beverly Hills for a whole summer. We were just writing music,” Wale said.

The rapper added that the period led to the creation of several songs, including their collaboration “Drop for Me.”

Wale’s comments have sparked conversations online about the early international connections that helped shape Wizkid’s rise to global stardom
