Nigerian rapper Olamide, 36, has clarified that his colleague Wizkid, 35, is actually his senior in the music industry.
Both artistes rose to mainstream fame in 2010 — Wizkid with “Holla At Your Boy” released in January, and Olamide with “Eni Duro” later that year. They were also nominated for the 2011 Headies Next Rated Award, which Wizkid won. This led many to assume they started their careers at the same time.
However, Olamide explained in a recent interview with streamer Azeeez that Wizkid began making and releasing music earlier.
According to him, “Wizkid and I didn’t start doing music at the same time. He started a year or two before me; he was already putting out music before I came.”
Wizkid had been featured on M.I’s hit track “Fast Money/Fast Cars” back in 2008 — roughly two years before he became widely popular.
