An 18-year-old Senegalese goalkeeper, Cheikh Toure, has been kidnapped and killed in Ghana after being lured by a fake football trial.
Toure, who trained at the Esprit Foot Yeumbeul academy, was confirmed dead on Saturday, October 19, 2025.
According to a statement from Senegal’s Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Toure’s body was discovered after his family failed to raise the full ransom demanded by his captors.
Reports revealed that he was deceived by a group of armed extortionists who invited him to Ghana under the pretense of joining a professional football club. When the ransom wasn’t fully paid, the kidnappers killed him.
Senegalese and Ghanaian authorities have launched a joint investigation to uncover the full details surrounding the tragic incident.
The Senegalese Ministry expressed its condolences to the family, assuring that the case is being handled with “the utmost seriousness and urgency.” Toure’s body is being prepared for repatriation to Senegal.
