Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised Enzo Maresca following his departure from Chelsea, calling him “an incredible manager and an incredible person.”

According to Sky Sports on Friday, speaking ahead of City’s Premier League clash with Chelsea, Guardiola said: “I think Chelsea have lost a good manager. From my point of view, he is an incredible coach and an incredible person. But it is the decision by the hierarchy of Chelsea, so nothing to say.”

Maresca left Chelsea on New Year’s Day, with the club appointing Calum McFarlane, the Under-21 head coach, as interim manager for Sunday’s trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola’s remarks highlight the respect Maresca commands across the Premier League, despite the sudden change at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea now face a challenging fixture against City, with McFarlane temporarily at the helm while the club decides on a long-term managerial replacement.
