Former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, is currently being questioned at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja.

Daily Trust gathered that Kyari, who had earlier been placed on the commission’s watchlist, arrived at the EFCC headquarters at about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Details of the interrogation remain unclear, but sources said it is connected to ongoing investigations into alleged financial irregularities in the petroleum sector during his tenure as head of the national oil company.

Kyari, who was appointed GCEO of NNPCL in 2019, was relieved of his duties earlier this year following a leadership shake-up in the oil corporation.

As of press time, EFCC officials had not released an official statement on the matter.
