Zahra Buhari-Indimi, daughter of Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, will host a charity football match in Abuja, in a move to empower youths and promote maternal health and education.

The high-profile exhibition match, organised in collaboration with the Attom Foundation, will hold on Saturday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

The event, which brings together African football legends, seeks to harness the unifying power of sport to drive social impact in underserved communities.

Speaking ahead of the match on Tuesday, Buhari-Indimi said the initiative was to promote sustainable development outcomes through a multi-pronged approach that targets vulnerable groups, especially women and youth.

“This is more than just a game. It is a platform for empowerment—an opportunity to channel resources into areas that directly impact lives, such as education, healthcare and shelter,” she said.

According to her, proceeds from the event will go towards the ZMB Homes Foundation, a non-profit organisation that provides shelter and support to widows and orphans across Nigeria.

The event, she noted, was inspired by the values of resilience and service embodied by her late father, who rose from humble beginnings to lead the country.

“I want young people to see what is possible, no matter where they come from. Like my father, many of them have the potential to achieve greatness if given the right support,” she said.

Aside from the match, the event will feature a series of outreach activities including a gala night, youth football clinics, and visits to selected schools and healthcare facilities.

It will also raise awareness and support for the programmes of both the ZMB Foundation and Attom Foundation, with a focus on long-term impact in local communities.

Buhari-Indimi encouraged members of the public, especially youths, to attend and support the cause, adding that collective effort was key to nation-building.

“We are using football to inspire action and give back. When we empower our people, we build a stronger Nigeria,” she added
