Security operatives in Ghana have arrested a man, Ebenezer Frimpong, over the alleged theft of a police armoured vehicle in the Ashanti Region.
The incident took place at Nkawie Market, where the vehicle belonged to the Ghana Police Service. Reports indicated that the driver had briefly stepped away from the vehicle and left the engine running in the busy area.
Frimpong allegedly seized the opportunity. He entered the vehicle and drove off, which triggered an immediate alert among security personnel.
Following the report, law enforcement officers initiated a coordinated operation to track the suspect. He was pursued along the Nkawie–Mim route as efforts intensified to recover the vehicle.
The suspect was later intercepted near Mim. Authorities described the operation as swift and well-coordinated.
“The suspect was apprehended without further incident, and the vehicle was recovered intact,” a security source said.
Officials confirmed that the armoured vehicle was recovered without damage. It has since been returned to police custody.
Frimpong remains in detention while investigations continue to establish the full details of the incident.
