A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has convicted and sentenced a popular TikToker and a musician to five months in prison each for abusing the Nigerian currency.

Justice S.M. Shuaibu handed down the sentences on Abubakar Ibrahim (also known as G-Fresh) and Hamisu Sa’id Yusuf famously known as Hamisu Breaker after they were arraigned by the Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Naira Abuse Charges

Both men were convicted on separate one-count charges bordering on abuse of the naira notes, contrary to Section 21(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007.

According to court documents, Abubakar Ibrahim was accused of spraying and stepping on ₦14,000 in ₦1000 notes while dancing at Rahma Sa’idu’s shop in Tarauni LGA of Kano State in November 2024.

Guilty Pleas and Sentencing

Upon being arraigned, both defendants pleaded guilty to the charges. EFCC’s counsel, Zarami Mohammed, presented the evidence before the court.

Justice Shuaibu thereafter convicted them and sentenced each to five months imprisonment with an option of a ₦200,000 fine.
