Mauro Icardi has Joined his place in Galatasaray’s rich history after becoming the club’s all-time leading foreign goalscorer. The Argentine striker reached this milestone with his 73rd goal for the Turkish giants, opening the scoring in a 3–1 Turkish Super Cup triumph over Istanbulspor. In doing so, he surpassed the legendary Gheorghe Hagi, whose record had stood for decades, and further underlined his remarkable impact since arriving in Turkey.
Icardi’s journey with Galatasaray began in September 2022 when he joined on loan from Paris Saint-Germain. His immediate influence was undeniable, quickly winning over fans with decisive goals and clutch performances in big matches. By the end of the 2022/23 Süper Lig season, he had netted 22 goals and provided seven assists, playing a pivotal role in guiding Galatasaray to the league title. His contributions convinced the club to secure his services permanently for €10 million the following summer.
Since then, Icardi has continued to deliver on the biggest stages, scoring crucial goals in domestic derbies and European competitions. One of his most memorable moments came in the Champions League, where he struck a dramatic winner against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Even an ACL injury in late 2024 could not halt his momentum, as he returned in 2025 to equal and then surpass several club records, culminating in his latest achievement.
While Icardi now stands alone at the summit, Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen is rapidly closing in. The Super Eagles striker has already scored 51 goals in just 61 appearances for Galatasaray, a remarkable strike rate that suggests Icardi’s record may not remain untouchable for long. Known for his explosive pace, physicality, and ruthless finishing, Osimhen has become one of the most feared attackers in Turkey.
With Icardi’s future shaped by age and injury history, his tally of 73 goals now serves as a clear target for Osimhen. As Galatasaray continues to battle for glory both domestically and in Europe, the club may soon witness a changing of the guard. For now, Icardi reigns supreme, but Osimhen’s rise ensures the race for Galatasaray’s most prolific foreign goalscorer is far from over.
