Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been handed a four-year suspension by the English Football Association (FA) after he failed a drug test in 2024.

The Ukraine international has remained under a provisional ban since December 2024. This followed a positive test for meldonium, a substance prohibited in sports. The test occurred while he was on international duty with his country.

Reports indicate that Mudryk has challenged the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The 25-year-old joined Chelsea in January 2023 for a fee of €70 million. His spell at the club was cut short after nearly two years when the suspension took effect. The FA brought formal charges against him after a second urine sample also returned positive for the same substance last year.

After about 17 months away from action, the FA imposed a four-year ban on the former Shakhtar Donetsk player. He still has more than two years left on the suspension. CAS confirmed that the player has filed an appeal against the ruling in a bid to overturn it. The court also stated that no date has been fixed to hear the case, which was submitted in February.

“CAS confirms it has received an appeal by Mykhailo Mudryk against the FA, filed on 25 February 2026. The Parties are currently exchanging written submissions, and a hearing is yet to be scheduled.”

Mudryk is expected to be represented by legal experts who previously succeeded in reducing Paul Pogba’s doping ban from four years to 18 months.
