Never Say Never: Hearn Hints At Joshua VS Paul Before 2026

Jake Paul has boxed 70 rounds compared with Anthony Joshua's 167

Eddie Hearn has refused to rule out a surprise clash between Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua, with the American on the hunt for a new opponent.

Paul was set to take on Gervona ‘Tank’ Davis in Miami in Florida on November 14.

However, that fight is now in major doubt after accusations of battery and kidnapping were levelled at Davis. And since then, Paul’s camp, Most Valuable Promotions, have confirmed that an investigation has been launched, as well as a search for potential new opponents.

A statement read: “Most Valuable Promotions immediately initiated an investigation upon learning of the civil lawsuit filed against Gervonta Davis in Miami-Dade County on October 30, 2025. At this time, we are gathering information and reviewing the details to ensure any decision we make is thoroughly vetted.

“We unequivocally condemn any form of violence and are committed to handling this matter with diligence and respect for all involved. We will make a determination on next steps once we have completed our review and consulted with the appropriate parties. Until then, we will not be commenting further.”

And while a new opponent has not yet been revealed, a few names have been mentioned, including Ryan Garcia, Edgar Berlanga and even Joshua. The latter was previously in talks to fight Paul, with promoter Hearn giving an intriguing answer over a bout.

Talking to iFL TV, he said: “Just let me know where.” Hearn’s comments come shortly after he clarified Joshua’s future by saying he was unlikely to take to the ring again before the year is out.

He said: “I don’t want to confirm it because you never know but I think it’s very unlikely. At the moment, we’re all working towards our February date, which is getting very close to being confirmed.

“Now, would there be a run out in 2025? Again, never say never. What I will say to you is he’s four or five weeks deep into camp, so he’s on me to fight.

“Previously, he hadn’t been training in camp with intensity. He wasn’t really looking to fight other than February but now he’s almost ready to go so I think realistically as we move into November, February will be the return date but never say never.”

Joshua has not fought since his defeat against Daniel Dubois at Wembley back in September 2024. Should he not fight this year, it would be the first time in his professional career that Joshua has failed to pull on his gloves in a calendar year.
