Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen has undergone successful surgery following an injury sustained during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash against Liverpool. The operation took place on Monday at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital, performed by club doctor Yener İnce. The Turkish side confirmed the procedure in a statement, expressing optimism about his recovery and wishing him a swift return to action.

The injury occurred during the second leg at Anfield on March 18. Osimhen collided in the air with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté, suffering damage to his arm. Despite the setback, the Nigerian forward attempted to continue, playing with a bandaged arm until halftime. However, increasing pain and swelling forced his withdrawal. Galatasaray went on to lose 4-0 on the night, exiting the competition 1-4 on aggregate.

The club’s announcement emphasized Osimhen’s importance to their domestic campaign. While their Champions League journey ended abruptly, Galatasaray remains focused on the Super Lig and domestic cup competitions. Osimhen has been central to their success this season, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions. His contributions have helped the team establish a four-point lead at the top of the league table. In Europe, he added seven goals and three assists in 10 Champions League matches, underlining his influence on the continental stage.

The timing of the injury also affects Osimhen’s international commitments. He has been omitted from Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the upcoming friendlies against Jordan and Iran, both scheduled to be played in Turkey. His absence is a blow for the Super Eagles, who had hoped to use the matches as preparation for future competitive fixtures. For Galatasaray, however, the priority remains ensuring his full recovery before the decisive stages of the domestic season.

Osimhen’s resilience has been widely noted. His determination to continue playing after the collision demonstrated his commitment, but the decision to substitute him proved necessary. The surgery now provides clarity, with the expectation that he will return once rehabilitation is complete. Galatasaray’s statement reflected confidence in their medical team and optimism about his comeback.

Looking ahead, the club must balance its pursuit of trophies with careful management of its star striker’s recovery. With crucial league fixtures and cup ties approaching, Osimhen’s fitness could be decisive. His scoring record and ability to create opportunities make him indispensable to Galatasaray’s ambitions. The team hopes his absence is short-lived, allowing him to rejoin the squad as they aim to secure domestic success.

Osimhen’s injury and subsequent surgery mark a significant moment in Galatasaray’s season. While the Champions League exit was disappointing, the focus now shifts to maintaining their lead in the Super Lig and competing for domestic honors. The Nigerian forward’s recovery will be closely monitored, as his return could determine whether Galatasaray converts their strong position into silverware.
